The Process of Designing Our Pyjamas
Have you ever wondered about the process of creating sleep and loungewear?
Each style released takes 3 months from concepts to launch (excluding design time). We spoke with all our staff in the office to break down the design process of our PJs from start to finish and here are the steps for designing a new item!
1. RESEARCH
The very first step is always research! From print, colours, styles, ect. Theres always so much research to do.
2. CONCEPTS
After a meeting about the research, our in-house graphic artists present an array of different concepts to us.
3. DECIDE ON FINAL PRINT
We then decide which concept is our favourite and continue to work towards to the final print.
4. CREATE PRODUCTION ART
Once the final print is approved, we create the production art.
5. CHOOSE PMS COLOURS + FABRIC + STYLE
After the production artwork is finalised we then choose the PMS colours for the design, choose the fabric and the style it will be placed in.
6. SEND FOR STRIKE OFF
Our Import Manager sends off the artwork for a strike off, which is a printed fabric sample, created and dyed to our requirements.
7. RECEIVE STRIKE OFF
We receive the strike off around 2 weeks after the artwork was sent off. We then review as a team and make changes if needed. This is where we get to see the print come to life from digital to physical!
8. COMMENTS / CHANGES
We then make comments and changes based on the strike off. If there are changes that need to be altered, we get a new strike off to review.
9. GO AHEAD! BULK FABRIC & TESTING FOR QA
Once we approve the strike off, we then go ahead with creating the bulk fabric. This also gets sent to a seperate testing facility for Quality Control.
10. INTIAL SAMPLE
Once the bulk fabric is approved and testing is completed, we receive our first garment sample.
11. CHECK MEASUREMENTS, COLOURS, WASH & WORKMANSHIP
Once we receive our first sample, we do our in-house QA such as checking all measurements are correct, all colours are correct, workmanship is up to standard and we do our own wash tests to ensure colour fastness, no shrinkage, etc. We also receive lab dips for any embroidery, pocket tabs, back neck tape, buttons, and elastic to choose the colours.
12. PREPRODUCTION SAMPLE ARRIVES
Once the initial sample has gone through our in-house testing, if no changes/issues are faced, we then approve and receive our preproduction samples for final checks. Preproduction samples arrive in every single size in the range.
13. BULK PRODUCTION BEGINS
Once preproduction is approved, bulk production starts.
14. BULK INSPECTION BEGINS
An inspection on bulk production and workmanship is completed by a third party.
15. FINAL SAMPLES ARRIVE
Our final shipping samples arrive (these samples are from the bulk fabric) and are used for our final tests and then in our photoshoots.
16. PHOTOSHOOT
We organise a photoshoot for the style.
17. SALE DATE IS ORGANISED
Once the goods arrive in our warehouse, we then lock in a launch date.
18. LAUNCH
The style is finally ready to go on sale for our beautiful customers to buy!
