Set a Consistent Bedtime Routine
Children thrive on routine, and having a predictable bedtime schedule helps signal to their body that it’s time to wind down. Try keeping bedtime and wake-up times the same every day, even on weekends. A simple, calming routine could look like this:
- A warm bath
- Pyjamas on
- Brushing teeth
- Storytime or quiet cuddles
- Lights out
Consistency is key—after a few weeks, their body will naturally start to associate these steps with sleep.
Choose the Right Pyjamas
Comfort is everything when it comes to sleep. Scratchy fabrics, itchy tags, or pyjamas that are too hot or too cold can disrupt your child’s rest. Opt for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or waffle to keep them cosy all night long. Allowing them to choose their pyjamas for the night is also a great way to allow them some control over their nighttime routine. Our Cachia kids’ pyjama range is designed with comfort in mind—super soft, fun prints, and perfect for little dreamers!

Limit Screen Time Before Bed
Blue light from tablets, TVs, and phones can interfere with melatonin production, making it harder for kids to fall asleep. Try switching off all screens at least an hour before bed and replace screen time with a quiet, calming activity like reading, puzzles, or drawing.
Try the '10-Minute Wind-Down' Rule
Instead of abruptly announcing bedtime (which can trigger resistance), introduce a 10-minute wind-down period. Let them choose a calming activity before bed—like stretching, listening to a lullaby, or a short bedtime story. This helps transition them into sleep mode without the bedtime tantrums.

Make Their Bedroom a Sleep Haven
Creating a comfortable sleep environment can make a huge difference. Try these tips:
- Dim the lights – turn off the main light in their bedroom, and instead turn on a lamp or nightlight with a soft warm glow.
- Cool & cosy – keep the room temperature between 18-22°C for optimal sleep.
- White noise or soft music – helps to drown out any background noise and soothes restless sleepers.
- A cuddly comfort item – A favourite soft toy or blanket can help provide extra security for your little one.
Use the 'Bedtime Pass' Trick
For kids who constantly get out of bed for “just one more” story, hug, or water refill, try using a bedtime pass. Give them a small card or token that allows them to leave their bed one time only after lights out. This helps them feel in control while reducing endless bedtime excuses.

Be Patient & Stay Calm
Some nights will be easier than others, and that’s okay! If your child is struggling to sleep, try not to show frustration—it can make them more anxious about bedtime. Stay calm, keep reinforcing the routine, and soon enough, those bedtime battles will become a thing of the past.

A good night’s sleep is essential for happy kids (and well-rested mums!). By creating a cosy bedtime routine, making their sleep environment inviting, and keeping things consistent, you’ll help your little one drift off faster and stay asleep longer.
